Founded in 1982, Life Storage, Inc. first began as a financial planning firm before entering the self-storage industry in 1985. Starting with only 30 facilities along the East Coast, the company quickly grew to 62 facilities over the next decade and went public in 1995, trading under the name Sovran Self Storage.
