Since 1994, my passion for woodworking and furniture design has been a constant. My father and I first experimented with the craft in our family garage, building a working scale-model guillotine. When our projects outgrew the space, we moved to a warehouse in Houston’s Montrose district. Upon graduating from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts in 2003, I decided to pursue furniture making as a full-time profession and enrolled in the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s Nine-Month Comprehensive program. After graduating, I returned home to Houston and opened my own shop.

After spending two years building strictly commissioned work, I decided to take my craftsmanship to the next level and applied to the Fine Woodworking Program founded by James Krenov in Fort Bragg, California. There, I gained a better understanding of how to combine my expertise in handwork and fine detailing with production methods I had learned in Maine. In 2009, I was granted the opportunity to study lettercarving with master carver Chris Pye, and I was instantly enamored by it. As a result, I have since been carving letters on commission and on spec, with many of my pieces appearing in publications such as Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, Woodworker West, and Letter Arts Review. Additionally, I have also exhibited my work on all three coasts. Currently, I am grateful to be able to balance my time between building commissioned furniture, writing, teaching, and spending quality time with my family. Every day in the shop is an exciting journey, and I plan on continuing to learn and grow in this craft for years to come.
